For more than 45 years, Anthea M King School of Dancing has been helping children and young people discover the joy of dance.

Founded on a love of classical ballet and a belief in the importance of excellent dance education, our school has grown into a welcoming dance community where students are encouraged to learn, develop and, above all, enjoy their journey.

Our Principal – Anthea M King

Anthea’s own dance journey began with a passion for ballet and led to training at The Royal Ballet School, where she was fortunate to receive outstanding classical ballet training.
That experience has played an important part in shaping her approach to teaching.
However, over more than four decades of teaching, one thing has become equally important: understanding that every child is different.
Not every child comes to dance with the same ambition.
Some dream of performing on stage or pursuing dance as a career. Others simply love music and movement, enjoy being creative with their friends, or want to develop confidence and have fun each week.

We believe every one of those reasons is equally valuable.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We believe that every child, regardless of ability or aspiration, deserves a rich and rewarding experience in dance and music.
Our Holistic approach combines the discipline and strong technical foundations of classical ballet with creativity, imagination and self-expression.
We recognise that children learn in different ways, and we adapt our teaching to help each student feel supported, challenged and successful.
Through dance, our students can develop so much more than technique.
They can discover:

 Confidence, Creativity, Self-expression, Musicality, Movement skills and Coordination, Resilience, Discipline and a Lifelong love of dance

More Than Just Dance Classes

We want our students to leave their classes with more than improved dance technique.
We want them to feel proud of what they have achieved, excited about what they can learn next and confident in their own abilities.
For some, that may mean working towards examinations and developing their technique through the graded syllabus.
For others, it may mean performing, exploring different styles of dance, developing creativity or simply enjoying the freedom of movement.
And for those who wish to explore dance more seriously, we provide opportunities to develop their skills through appropriate training and vocational pathways.

There is no single definition of what a successful dancer looks like.

Success may be a beautifully executed step, the courage to perform for the first time, the confidence to try something new, or simply leaving class with a smile.

Looking To The Future

While we are proud of our history and the foundations on which our school was built, we are equally passionate about the future of dance education.
We continue to explore new ways of teaching, new opportunities for our students and new ways to inspire the next generation of dancers.
Our aim is to preserve the beauty and discipline of classical ballet while allowing children to discover it in a way that feels relevant, inspiring and enjoyable to them.

Every child has their own unique dance journey.

Our role is to encourage, nurture and guide them along the way.
Whether they take their first ballet steps with us at two years old, continue through graded training, discover the excitement of performance, or simply dance with us for the sheer joy of it, they will always have a place within our dance community.
